BVU proudly presents the second event of our Do Something series for 2010!

Since 2006, BVU has hosted Do Something!, an educational event for community members interested in learning about a local issue and ways they can get involved as volunteers.

This year, we are partnering with WYPR to discuss issues raised by their riveting Growing Up Baltimore series and giving participants an opportunity to connect with local nonprofits working to address them.  At each event participants will hear from Baltimore leaders and residents about the challenges facing our community, paying special attention to issues affecting our city’s youth including educational needs, community safety, and social services.

Participants inspired to "Do Something!" at this event will be able to connect with local nonprofits to learn about volunteer opportunities related to strengthening our city's workforce and preparing our young people to thrive in Baltimore's post-industrial economy.

We're so pleased to say that our keynote speaker for this event will be Joe Jones, President and CEO of the Center for Urban Families and a nationally recognized leader on our topic.  As we continue to highlight issues from WYPR's Growing Up Baltimore Series, we'll also be joined by Sunni Khalid, the station's Senior Reporter. This event is a perfect opportunity for community members to meet like-minded individuals who are passionate about improving our neighborhoods through volunteerism and advocacy.

Light fare and cocktails will be provided. All proceeds support BVU, Greater Baltimore's center for volunteerism.

Featured nonprofit organizations include:

The Caroline Center

Urban Alliance

Upward Bound

Genesis Jobs

Year Up

Parks & People Foundation

STRIVE Baltimore
